NACEE TRiO – Talent Search Academic Specialist (Huntsville)
Description: Position Overview: The North Alabama Center for Educational Excellence (NACEE) is seeking a TRiO Talent Search Academic Specialist. The Talent Search Academic Specialist is responsible for delivering academic, career, and STEM curriculum and services to low-income, first-generation students in grades 6-12. The Academic Specialist will report to the TRiO Program Coordinator and work with a team of other Academic Specialists serving the Huntsville City Schools and Madison School Districts.
Job Duties will include: · Academic advising and intervention, financial aid and financial literacy advising, career counseling and STEM education · Maintain an annual caseload of Talent Search students · Coordinate the recruitment and selection of eligible student participants under the program admissions process; assure that all grant guidelines regarding eligibility are met · Design intervention strategies to increase academic performance (quarterly progress reports, academic skills development, etc.) · Coordinate program events and activities (workshops, campus visits, tutoring, and a 6 week summer camp) · Facilitate completion of applications to postsecondary institutions, financial aid, and scholarships · Document and record students need for services, academic support, and verification of income, and first-generation status · Maintain timely and accurate student records including contact logs, case notes, and files
Qualifications: · Qualified applicants will have a bachelor’s degree (preferred) in education, counseling, higher education, social services, or related field. · Candidates should have experience working with underrepresented populations. · Familiarity with current knowledge of TRiO programs and working with low-income, first-generation students is preferred. · In accordance with federal grant guidelines, the preferred candidate’s parents would not have a college degree and/or are from a low socio-economic background. This is a full-time position. The Talent Search Academic Specialist works primarily during the school year and summer.
