Job Description: Upward Bound Coordinator

Start Date: To Be Determined    Position Reports to: Executive Director/President

Summary of Job Duties

The NACEE Upward Bound Program serves eligible, low-income, first-generation-to-go-to-college students in the Huntsville, Madison County area. The program works to generate the skills and motivation in eligible students necessary to persist in completing a program of secondary education and continuing to complete a program of post secondary education. The Upward Bound Coordinator provides programmatic and operational support for the Upward Bound Program. Tasks that include managing participant and other records, compiling annual summaries, processing financial transactions with Blumen and Banner, and maintaining the website.  This is a grant-funded position.

Requirements:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Supervise Upward Bound Program participants
  • Communicate effectively with target school personnel including guidance counselors and principals.
  • Communicate effectively with person in target communities and university personnel
  • Dialog with program participants’ parents/guardians
  • Assist with documentation of eligibility, academic need, services, activities, attendance, satisfactory progress, and test data
  • Visit target high schools monthly and target feeder school annually
  • Conduct workshops for parents/guardians and program participants
  • Assist with recruitment of eligible program participants
  • Assist with data entry and maintaining data in the TRIO database
  • Compile data for the Annual Performance Report and University reports
  • Track and disseminate follow-up data to all former program participants
  • Travel to TRIO related conferences and with program participants during each component
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Minimum Position Requirements (including certifications, licenses, etc.):

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, sociology, business or a related field. A Master’s degree is preferred.
  • At least two (2) years of experience working with low-income, first-generation students who have an academic need or similar experience in other program.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Familiar with Microsoft Excel and Access.
  • Possess strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated experience to successfully maintain positive interpersonal relationships.
  • Demonstrated experience to successfully handle multiple demands efficiently.
  • Demonstrated experience in a supervisory capacity.
  • Ability to make professional programmatic decisions.
  • Ability to work on Saturdays (20 Saturdays per academic year).
  • Ability to work evenings during the months of June and July.
  • Ability to maintain data confidential.

SALARY: Negotiable
